Writing eBay Listings That Sell

July 22, 2008 · Filed Under All Things eBay

Writing an effective title and great product description will make your chances of your eBay listing being found on eBay and product sold.

As an active eBay seller, I see all kinds of listings. The best listings are those that tell a story about the item or provide a history of the item. That information won’t always be available, but if you know, include it. And then there are the listings where the description is only a few sentences long, but the terms and conditions are 15 paragraphs. Those listings make me feel like I’ve done something wrong and it would be a nightmare if I won the auction because I wouldn’t be able to figure out how to checkout. If you have a long terms and conditions statement, it might be a good idea to condense the statement on your listing and provide the entire statement on your About Me page.

It’s true that a good photo is important in your auction listing, but add to that a great title and description and you’ve got a sale. It does take time to learn how to write effective copy, but there are some great resources online to assist you. The first place would be eBay’s own Writing a Good Title and Description article. Another great resource I just found is eBay Rckstr®. They offer a 10-day copywriting bootcamp that teaches you how to apply the art of copywriting to your eBay business. You can read the entire course online for free or download a PDF - your choice. Lots of great information and tips available there.

I hope your find the above resources helpful. If you know of any tips or tricks to make eBay listings stand out, feel free to share by commenting.
