5 Freebie Entertainment Ideas for Freelancers
Looking for new ways to trim your entertainment budget, yet still have your fun? With the economy the way it is, I have had to give up a few things. I cancelled my cable TV and for me that was hard. I am an admitted TV junkie. Really, I’m a cable news junkie, but I really didn’t need all those channels. So I decided to share with you a few online sources where I can have my entertainment and all for free.
- Music and Videos. If you love music and videos like I do, you’ll love SpiralFrog. You can download your favorite music for free legally. SpiralFrog is an ad-supported Web site with over 800,000 songs available to download. There is no limit to how many songs you can download. They also have videos you can download and watch too.
- Watch TV Online. I have to admit that this one is my favorite. There is a software program called TVUPlayer. You’ll find a variety of news, sports and movies. You can set it up for English only and create favorite channels.
- Free Books. If you like to read classics, you’ll love Project Gutenburg. Looking to move out old books and get new ones? Try BookMooch. And if you like to read magazines, grab some free magazines at All-Freemagazines.com.
- Free Travel. Freelancers do have to get away from their desks. I came across this article, The Ultimate Guide to Free Travel. It is dated April 2006 so you’ll want to keep that in mind. But there are nine ways to get a free vacation. House-sitting, hiking trail volunteers, workampers are just a few covered in the article.
- Learn How To Do Something. There are an abundance of do-it-yourself sites and tutorials on the Web that will help you learn just about anything. My favorite is DIY Network. The DIY Network offers the latest do-it-yourself projects and videos, including home improvement, crafts, gardening, woodworking and much more. Another favorite of mine is Real Simple. Be sure to browse the section, worksheets and checklists. Mother Earth News is a valuable resource for learning about about sustainable, self-reliant living.
Take time to enjoy life and do take time to get away from the laptop. But while you’re on your laptop, you’ve got some great stuff available to you to enjoy.
Have Fun!
